Bobrza, at times of the biggest industrial bloom, belonged to the bishops of Cracow. In the beginning of XVII century, bishop Piotr Tylicki brought from Bergamo a family of Italian metallurgists, entrusting them the development of existing forging. During the years 1610 -1613, Wawrzyniec and Jan Cacciow build a large blast furnace, the first on Polish land, as well as three roasting furnaces. Bobrza was at that time the center of a big complex of 7 forges, in which cannons, shots, sabers and boilers were produced.

The Krzyżtopór Castle is not unlike a calendar. It has as many windows as days of the year (363 – in a leap year; in normal years, one window was bricked up) as many rooms as weeks (54), as many ballrooms as months (12), as many towers as quarters (4) and as many entrances as weekdays. Most of the windows, rooms and entrances remain intact today.
